Vehicle preparation: <\/strong>Before starting to replace the car wheel hub bearings, make sure the vehicle is turned off and in a safe condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tool preparation: <\/strong>Flathead screwdriver, tap wrench, wheel impact socket, impact socket, ceramic grease, brake cleaner, line stopper, snap ring pliers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parts preparation:<\/strong> Suitable bearings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

01.Use a jack, jack stand, and wheel chock to lift the car; or use a car lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

02.Remove any parts from the wheels and braking system that obstruct access to the bearings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

03.Familiarize yourself with the design of the bearings. Single-row ball bearings and tapered roller bearings (GEN-0), double-row bearings (GEN-1) with mounting hole flanges (GEN-2), wheel hub assemblies (GEN-3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

04.Install the wheel hub bearing assembly (GEN-3) on the drive shaft to steering knuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

05.To remove fasteners, the CV axle must be disconnected. It is easier to loosen the CV axle fasteners when the car wheels are on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

06.Depending on the car’s design, it may be necessary to remove the entire steering knuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

07.It needs to be disconnected from the suspension strut, control arm, and steering components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

08.Disconnect the ball joint and CV axle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

09.Move the CV axle aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10.Support the steering knuckle with a jack stand, or connect it to a ball joint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11.Clean all fasteners. Use a hammer to tap on the fasteners to make them easier to loosen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.Loosen the wheel hub bearing fasteners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.Remove the bearings from the steering knuckle. If removal is difficult, use tools if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14.Clean the mounting seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15.Be extra careful if there is an ABS sensor during operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16.Be sure to use new fasteners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17.Apply a layer of rust inhibitor on the bearing mounting surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18.Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.GEN-2 (flange) bearings are typically installed on the wheel hub, which is mounted on the axle. Note that a special puller may be needed to remove the bearing from the axle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20.Clean the wheel hub bearing mounting seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21.When installing bearings of this type, force should only be applied to the inner ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22.If the bearing is mounted on one of the drive wheels, the hub bearing assembly needs to be disassembled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

23.In this case, the bearing is mounted on the steering knuckle. The hub needs to be pressed out from the bearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

24.Replacing double-row bearings (GEN-1) requires disassembling the steering knuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25.To disassemble this component, first push the hub from the other side to press it out. Once the bearing is accessible, press it out as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26.Apply the necessary force using a press and operate precisely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

27.Position the steering knuckle on its load-bearing point to prevent deformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

28.When pressing out the hub from the inner bearing race, only apply pressure to the hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

29.Determine the diameter of the hub and use appropriately sized tools. If the inner bearing race remains on the hub shaft, a special puller is needed to remove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30.To press out the outer ring of the bearing from the steering knuckle, use a properly sized screwdriver or the old inner ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

31.When pressing the hub into the bearing, apply pressure only to the inner ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

32.Clean the work area, bearing mounting seat, fasteners, and retaining rings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

33.One side of the bearing may be equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) sensor ring. In this case, it should be installed in the correct position with the magnetic side facing the ABS sensor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

34.Before pressing the bearing in, ensure it is in a horizontal position. Use a tool with a suitable diameter or the old outer ring for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

35.Press the bearing in completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

36.Press the inner bearing race onto the hub shaft. If a press is not available, a slide hammer or puller can be used for replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

37.Use appropriately sized tools and pullers to remove the bearing from the steering knuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

38.Single row bearings (GEN-0) are typically installed in pairs in one hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

39.To press out the bearing race, use a press head with the appropriate diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

40.Apply a generous amount of suitable lubricant on the bearing and its seat ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

41.During installation, adjust the bearing to the correct preload force. Note that insufficient preload may result in excessive bearing clearance, while excessive preload may cause the bearing to overheat during operation. After driving 50 to 100 kilometers, recheck the preload force and adjust if necessary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
